Olá, tudo bem?
Aquarela is a project that aims to stimulate the learning and maintenance of Portuguese as a heritage language (PLH) and teaching of Portuguese to children and adults in Newcastle, Australia.
ABOUT US
Aquarela Community Language School began in Newcastle in 2020 to provide education in the Portuguese language and culture to members of our local community. Our school is an approved community language school conducted through the NSW Department of Education’s Community Language Program.
Classes are offered to adults and kids (3 - 12 yo), running once a week in person or online. Our mission is to inspire our students and their families to know their heritage language and remind them about our identity, making a positive contribution to Australia and our world.
We strongly believe that culture is the most important component of language learning. Because of that, we use a lot of cultural knowledge in our classes and offer workshops about Brazillian subjects such as capoeira, science and dance.
MEET THE TEACHER
Cintia Baio has been teaching Portuguese in Australia since 2019. She is a journalist with specialization in “Teaching Portuguese as a Second Language” and “Teaching Portuguese as a Heritage Language”.

Kids & Teenagers
For children and teenagers, we offer Portuguese classes and workshops in an environment full of games and references to Brazilian culture. Classes are divided by age and levels of knowledge of the language.
